SSD Concerns…and Samsung’s Response

Pioneer DVR-K06 Drive Reliability Reports

XL8YourMac has a pretty extensive collection of user reports on the Pioneer DVR-K06 in Macs.  This model drive is a slot-loader, and is used in as a replacement in Mac laptops, such as the PowerBook G4.

CES: Altec Lansing Releases New iPhone Speakers

Today at CES Altec Lansing announced the T612 iPhone dock and speakers. The T612 should be arriving in February with a MSRP of $199.95.  Like the M602, the T612 features neodymium speakers and “XdB” bass-enhancement.  It also has a universal dock for the iPod or iPhone.  The back of the unit also features an aux-in jack for other audio sources.

CES: Lacie Adds New Products

Lacie today announced a slew of new products at CES, consisting of hard drives and monitors.  The hard drives include the d2 Quadra and the Little Big Disk Quadra.  The d2 is a quad-interface external drive available in sizes of 320GB up to 1TB.  The d2 is able to dissipate heat without a fan, due to it’s large surface area.  The Little Big Disk Quadra is another quad-interface drive, designed for portability.  It features an aluminum heat sink design, and is available in sizes from 400-500GB.

Lacie also added a new professional LCD to their product line, the 324 LCD.  The 324 is a 24 inch LCD utilizing “Super Patterned Vertical Alignment (S-PVA), which boasts a 92% NTSC gamut rating, great for video professionals.  It is 16:10, and MSRP is $1050.  The resolution of this display has not been published.

Axiotron Ships Modbook…Finally

The Modbook is finally shipping.  Finally…

You have to admit, a MacBook converted into a tablet, via Wacom hardware is pretty cool.  At first, it’s very attractive for many people.  However, since the screen is permanently altered in place, and you can’t continue to use the MacBook keyboard, it’s everyday utility for normal users may be limited.

If the increased price and the fixed screen aren’t negatives, then the ModBook may be the coolest freaking Mac available right now…until Apple releases a tablet…we hope.

iPod Touch Prize Fight

Today CNET published its prize-fight review of the iPod Touch versus the Archos 605 WiFi .  The Archos came out on top in a close battle, focusing on navigation, sexiness, compatibility, sound and science, and the “wallet factor.”
